A Darling Day!

Run Cape Town running tours does DarlingRun Cape Town-Sightseeing on the Run has teamed up with local craft brewers Darling Brew to offer a fabulous day tour of trail running, taste sensations and BEER, possibly the best post-run rehydration there is, in the small West-coast town of Darling!

Last Saturday we were joined by a fabulous bunch of fit, interesting and enthusiastic students from the United States and Singapore, who are currently studying in Cape Town as part of a study abroad programme, having already spent time in Brazil, and heading on to Hanoi in Vietnam after South Africa – what adventurous souls!

So Adam, Anselmo, Maggie, Cam, Rachel, Han and Vaib joined running guide Alana and I for a morning of Run Cape Town running tours does Darlingexploring and tasting in Darling!  First we set out for a trail run through the Renosterveld Reserve, an area of land that has been maintained to preserve the local endemic flowers that appear towards the end of winter.  The original 8,5km route we had planned wasn’t enough for this energetic bunch & we ended up running 12,24km through beautiful farmlands, with great views and some friendly cows along the way, until we could JUST see the tip of Table Mountain sticking out on the horizon, which was pretty cool!

Run Cape Town running tours does DarlingNext stop was Darling Olives where we sampled some green & black olives, infused salts & olive oils, as well as a chocolate that is made from … yes, you guessed it, OLIVES!  Delicious!  After stocking up on some tasty treats to take back home we headed to Ormonde, a wine farm in Darling, where our runners sampled some tasty vino and learned a little about how the fog that comes up off the ocean makes for excellent grape cultivation in the Darling area.

Lastly we headed to the Slow Quarter, Darling Brew’s Tap Room in the Main Road of Darling, where we sampled 5 of Darling Brew’s craft beers & tucked into a yummy and healthy lunch platter of cold meats, cheese, fresRun Cape Town running tours does Darlingh home-baked bread & tapenades, all locally sourced in Darling … a very well-earned taste sensation!  What a great way to spend the day with new running friends; sharing stories, sampling delicious fare and learning a little more about the West Coast of the Cape.

So if you’re looking for a new area to explore, why not get a small group of runners together (minimum 4 people) and join Run Cape Town-Sightseeing on the Run for a day of running & exploring in this Darling town!
