Run Gugulethu
Enjoy an informative running tour of Gugulethu township.
Travel a little further afield to join our fantastic local running guide, Vincent Ntunja, for a running tour through the streets of the township of Gugulethu, just 20 minutes outside of Cape Town.
The name Gugulethu comes from the Xhosa words “igugu lethu” which mean “our pride”, and this township was established in the 1960s.
Visit the important historical landmarks in Gugs, including the Amy Biehl Memorial, the Gugulethu Seven Memorial and the Gugulethu Sports complex, and enjoy some refreshments at Mzoli’s (one of Gugs’ most visited braai (barbecue) spots) afterwards.
This run is about more than just clocking distances and speed; it’s about soaking up the atmosphere of this vibrant community, interacting with the people you come across in the streets, learning more about the sometimes tragic history of the area, as well as seeing how far Gugs has come and how the people have united and grown with an enormous sense of pride and love for their ‘hood’.
