Andrew, aka Andy, coach, is a passionate runner and qualified trailrunning adventure guide, who loves to share the beautiful trails of Cape Town with running friends, both new & old. He has completed uncountable half marathons and marathons, as well as a bunch of impressive races including Grand Raid in 2012 – at a distance of 170km this is known as one of the top 10 toughest races in the world!
More locally, Andy completed the 2 Oceans Ultra in 2017, Comrades in 2017 & 2019, as well as the virtual 90km race during Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, and has run the Table Mountain Challenge as a charity event multiple times, on 2 occasions over 7 consecutive days!! He has also accompanied South African Adventurer, David Grier, on a number of challenging running adventures, creating awareness and raising funds for Operation Smile through the Cipla “Miles for Smiles” initiative – some of their epic trips include including running the Great Wall of China (a distance of some 4200 km in a time span of 90 days), Thailand (1000km in about 20 days, finishing with the The Thai Ultra “Beast” marathon, 100km in the jungle in Thailand ), Man vs Beast (a distance of 800km over 16 days along the west coast of South Africa)! They’ve also run across Cuba and the Pyong Yang Marathon in North Korea, and from Land’s End to John O’Groats, a distance of roughly 970km. His comments re this: “it was a jol hey, just picturing the Scottish highlands with green green countrysides, lots of rain & a long road ahead….lekker!”
Andy always has a smile on his face, some water / snacks in is hydration pack, an awesome story or 3 and/or a joke to keep you entertained #ontheruntour! His favourite running spots in Cape Town are Newlands Forest or actually anywhere on Table Mountain, but he will also show you some cool hidden spots on a historical city tour, if road running is more your thing, as well as some beautiful long-distance coastal road runs if you’re training for a marathon & want to get some km under your belt whilst in the Mother City!
