Kick-starting Summer 2014 with Run Cape Town!

Running in Cape Town with AlliRun Cape Town has had a wonderful start to the summer, having had the privilege of meeting and ruRunning in Cape Town in the rain rocksnning with a bunch of runners from the UK/Europe.  First we had the lovely Allison, a personal trainer from Buntingford, who joined us for three running tours – one in the sunshine through the city centre, and two more runs in the rain (!!) – one on Lion’s Head with running guide Sean, and one along the promenade to Camps Bay.  This powerhouse of a personal trainer came back from a car accident that left her with broken vertebrae in her back to run the London Marathon – really inspiring stuff!  And she didn’t let the rain get her down, soldiering on with a brave face and loads of stories to share!

NexLion's Head trail run in Cape Townt came Lewis from Manchester, a goalkeeping coach & participant in the “Tough Mudder” – a series of hardcore 10-12 mile obstacle race / mud run events designed by British Special Forces to challenge the toughest of the tough!  Sounds intense … 😉  Lewis also joined us for three runs; including a sunny Lion’s Head and city centre running tour, and sadly for us the weather also let us down a bit on our last day and we got DRENCHED on our trail running tour on the Table Mountain contour path, having to cut our run a bit short!  But even in the rain it is always a treat, and a very memorable experience, running on our beautiful Table Mountain.trail running in Cape Town on Lion's Head

Next we were joined by two marathon runners and triathletes from Wales, Sara and Dwynwen, who flew around Lion’s Head, as if with wings – training in those hills in Wales must have paid off!  These gorgeous girls were on holiday in Cape Town for 10 days and managed to squeeze in a trail running tour on their last night in Cape Town – we’re honoured you chose to spend your last hours in Cape Town running with us  J

Table Mountain trail running tour in Cape TownAnd our newest UK running friend is Peter from London, an Iron Man Athlete who also flew up Kloof Nek corner & set the pace along the Table Mountain contour path, choosing to extend his run a bit by running a few extra kilometres along the pipe track – what a wonderful way to spend a Sunday morning in Cape Town, thanks Peter for keeping us on our toes!Run Gugs running in Gugulethu in Cape Town

In other news, our favourite Gugs running guide, Vincent Ntunja, was joined by a lovely couple from Switzerland, Karin and Bastian, for a running tour of Gugulethu, followed by some “shisa nyama” at Mzoli’s.  Shaun joined in the experience, to show these visitors the delights of their hood …
